How are they made?  

I purchase quality components in bulk form from a jewelry wholesale supplier.  I measure and cut chain to your desired length and place the pendant of choice (if any) on the chain before installing the clasps so it doesn't come off.

The chain that I use is made by the exact same machines as 14 and 18 karat gold chains (and as a result, have the same sparkle). By heavily layering gold after the chain has been cut, you get a chain that looks and wears like 14 karat gold, but it's a lot less expensive.

What is the base metal?

The base metal is also gold in color and is made up of almost the same mixture of metals (highly polished brass alloy) used to bring 24kt gold down to 14kt, 10kt, etc. The exterior of the product is solid 14kt gold and everything you can see or touch is a solid layer of 14kt gold.

How much gold is on the chain?

The chains are layered 25 times (up to 25 times more gold than cheap costume jewelry) with real 14 karat gold, then sealed with a highly durable clear coat. The gold is applied for a longwearing life. More importantly, there is more gold on our chain than would probably wear off a solid gold chain.

Will this chain turn my neck green?

Because of the thickness of the gold, the chains won't tarnish.

Yes, It's 3 layers of rhodium. (3 mils).  While the gold spec. is 25 layers , the rhodium is only 3. Rhodium is much harder (and more expensive). Fortunately, less rhodium is required for reasonable durability.

I've tried these products before and they tarnished.

The chain and pendants are layered and permanently sealed with real 14 karat gold or real rhodium and is designed to be the best in category. However, I cannot guarantee or state that the jewelry will NEVER wear or tarnish. Probably the product that you bought had very little plating on it; it was probably washed or flashed, not thick layered. These chains are plated 25 times with 14 karat gold or rhodium. There's a big difference!
